Strange Things My Cat Will Eat

The human foods this cat will eat. This is a little something just for fun.  My cat has never be a picky eater.  The word finicky is unheard of around this cat.

I started making a list of some of the human foods she likes to eat, at least some of the ones that surprised me.

Midnight the cat will eat:

  • Tofu
  • Nori
  • Veggie Sausage, actually veggie anything
  • Garbanzo beans
  • Avocado
  • Kroger Queso Blanco with Jalapenos
  • Yogurt, fat-free
  • Spaghetti
  • Hard boiled eggs, only the yellow part
  • Bean and cheese burritos

Please note that these foods only comprise a tinny, tiny percentage of her overall diet, the bulk of which is currently from Purina One dry food formulated for urinary tract health.

Remember, overindulging can lead to health problems in pets as well as people.  Anyway, what kind of things do your pets eat?

6/8/2017 Update:

It’s been several years since Midnight has left me, but going through posts like this is a nice way of remembering her.  All is well.

It’s Cat Day Again

photos 1076

Today is Midnight’s birthday, yay!  She is now 6 years old, and totally oblivious to it.   I wish cats were more aware of these things, although it does makes surprising them easier.  I started the day with dressing her up and attempting to take her picture.  Not a lot of luck with that, I only got two pictures of her holding still.  This one wasn’t too bad I guess.

Here’s the better photo, she is not looking at me at all, but at least you can see the rest of her.  She is wearing a dress I made for her years ago, I forget what it was intended for originally.  It is made from a satin-y material and embellished with little bows.  I made a little wreath for her head, but Midnight hates have things around her ears.  I think she looks really cute in pink and she doesn’t seem to mind the dress at all except in warmer weather.  The rest of the celebrations will include playing with all her favorite toys, snuggling while watching movies, and a very special treat.  I found a coupon for a free Fancy Feast appetizer while clearing out my coupon file. I had completely forgotten about it, so it was great timing to find it a few days before her birthday.  What a lucky kitty.

Lost

photos 069_638x552As I was leaving this morning, I spotted a small furry face by the dumpster.  It was a kitten, the cutest little black cat you’ve ever seen, not including my cat Midnight of course.  I haven’t managed to get a picture, but she does bare a striking resemblance to Midnight, this is a picture of Midnight.  Too bad she doesn’t like the kitten.  She hisses at her whenever she gets close, I hear it’s a natural reaction for cats.  I’ve always found it odd, you see Midnight use to live with a family that had a ton of cats.  And for a cat that came from a multi-cat household, she doesn’t seem to be too good with other cats.  Anyway way, the kitten is so cute, but she was really scared when I found her.  It took a while to get her inside and I ended up being late at the clinic.  She is eating okay and seems to like me very much right now, too bad I can’t keep her.  Wish I could so badly.  I will have to take her to a shelter sometime tomorrow, I’m still trying to decide which one.  For now she’s in good hands.

Kitty Ruffles

photos 555

There’s a contest over at Ruffles and Stuff for projects that have a ruffled theme.  You can make them with any material, but you have to email photos before tomorrow.  I decided to make a cute little collar ruffle for Midnight.  It has two layered ruffles and little white bows for accent, and it’s made to slide on to her regular collar.

Here’s picture of how cute it looks on her.  Of course she couldn’t care less about that, except that she gets a lot of attention when wearing it.

Hats Off, or On

photos 014
The last item on my list is done.  I made the hat from scraps of the sweater I used for my jacket (see Soft and Glittery).  It’s a somewhat smaller version of the pattern from Sew Modest Clothing.  I though it look so cute on Midnight, so I couldn’t resist having her model it here.  See what a good kitty she, considering she can’t stand having things on her head for more than like 5 seconds.  I decided as a reward to postpone her bath, she deserves it.
Here’s the updated list:

  • Altered jacket
  • doll house
  • sleeping bags
  • hat
  • Glittery makeover All done, what a relief.

    Cones and Cat food

While running a few errands yesterday, I found some pinecones on the ground and inspiration sparked.  I decided to gather some and use them for one of the projects on my new list that I posted yesterday.  Bet you can’t guess which one?  I also discovered that 15 lbs. isn’t very heavy at all.  I had to buy more cat food since I was desperately low.  It is cheaper to buy in bulk, so I walked home lugging 15lbs. of a certain Purina brand that Midnight went wild over.  All I can say is I wish large bags of pet food had handles on them or something.  It’d make them so much easier to lug around.  Today I just want cuddle with my now well-fed kitty and just read all day.   Oh, and maybe boil fabric in tea.  Another hint of one of my projects.  Good weekend to all.

    Checking Off One by One

    photos 384
Here’s what I finished over the weekend.  These ornament were made with ornament hooks, so ironic.  I twisted one into a ring, and attached the other hooks in petal shapes.  I strung faux pearls onto the wires as I attached them.  Then I finished with a hook left as a hook to hang them up.  They were easy, but they made my hands cramp up.  I’m not really use to working with so much wire.

I wanted to make some pom-pom toys for my cat and realized I was out of yarn, so I improvised.  I cut fabric scraps into strips with my pinking shears, then made them into crinkly pom-poms.  I used some fabric to secure them and tied them to kite string.  Now I can dangle them for her.

    photos 386
I made this sock monkey for one of the men on my list.  Guys are so hard to craft for, hopefully he will at least find this amusing. The bow, stripes, heart eyes and hair on painted on.  I felt inspired some how.  I decided not to add a tail,  Curious George doesn’t have a tail and nobody complains about him, right?
    photos 394

This little kitty is for a certain little guy.  I made it out of a pair of old sweat pants.  I turn them inside-out to make it look fuzzier.  I hope he likes it.  Little boys can be just as hard to craft for as bigger boys.

    Here’s my updated list:
    • tiny scarves
    • tiny boxes
    • sock monkey
    • pom-poms
    • wire ornaments
    • kitty
    • belt
    • mitten ornaments
    • scarf
    • CD holder
    • horsie
    • pin cushions
    • wrapped accessories
    • apron
    • felt ornaments
    • disk boxes
    • tote
    • house
    • pet house
    • bell ornaments
    • Key chains
    • roll
Six down, Sixteen to go.  In order so far.

    Happy Cat day

Today is Midnight’s birthday!  My dear kitty is 5 years old now, not a little baby anymore.  In fact, I think she’s getting close to kitty middle-age.  Scary.

    photos 069

photos 187I usually don’t bother with making birthday presents for her anymore, save that for Christmas.  But she’s getting a very special dinner tonight,  thanks to a free sample from Wal-Mart.  Did you know you can get samples from the website?  They frequently have pet food samples so I check regularly.  Anyway, Midnight is having a happy and healthy birthday and hopefully she’ll have plenty more.

    Introduction

Alright, I finally did it!  I have been thinking about starting a blog for months, but I finally got up the nerve yesterday.  I’m still not entirely sure what to write about, but I can’t really let petty details like that stop me.
    mini-midnight

To start I’d like to introduce my pride and joy, my cat.  Her name is Midnight, she’s  4 years old, and she’s been in my life since she was 1 1/2.  She likes avocados, Friskies and tofu and she is the bravest little coward I have ever seen.  More on that later.
