More Pink for Baby

So much for getting my next project up in a timely matter.  I finished this one right on time, but it only took me about a week and a half to post it.  Grrr.

Anyway, some more friends are expecting a baby, this time it’s a little girl!  So more baby stuff.  And because I couldn’t resist, it’s all pink!

First up is the baby dress.  It’s a pillow case style dress.  I already knew how to make it because I’ve made similar tops (including this doll version with a tutorial), but I found this tutorial for baby dresses extremely useful.  It gives you measurements to use based on the age of the baby or toddler.  Useful when you don’t have a kid to measure.

It’s trimmed with eyelet lace at the bottom, and I used some cute pink grosgrain ribbon for the ties.  All I had to do was hang it on a cute pink hanger and it was ready to go.

Speaking of hangers, I bought a pack of pink children’s hangers for a dollar.  I thought that since this was a baby girl who will definitely receive lots of cute dresses from friends and family, the parents will need hangers.  They will need to store it all somehow.

And why not make them cute too?  Simply adding a nice ribbon bow to the top does the job.

And now we have a full set of cute girly hangers ready for use.  I think I might need to do this to my own hangers too.

To go along with the dress, and possibly all the other ones in her wardrobe, I made these cute baby head bands.  The one on the left has a eyelet lace rossette (tutorial!) accented with a pink bow made from the same ribbon as my baby dress and hangers.

The one on the right has a ribbon rose made with some ribbon left over from my Easter dress.

The unique part is what they are attached to, a loop cut from tights.  I got the idea from this tutorial for baby headbands.  It’s stretches enough to fit baby or even mommy’s head, but its soft and gentle.

The final piece is this stuff bunny, because toys are mandatory.  I call it the potato bunny because the shape of the body without legs reminds me of a potato.  Strange? Yes. Cute? Definitely.

The face is just a wee little nose made of felt and two faux pearls for eyes.  Don’t worry, I took extra measures to make them secure and baby safe.  It would take a strong force to pry these eyes off.

To finish it off, I tied on a ribbon bow.  Yep, it’s the same ribbon from the other pieces.  All the baby presents are finished.  And all that’s left is to wait for the baby to be born.

Here’s Bun-Bun

I  know a certain little boy who has been good all year and seems to like bunnies.  What would make a better gift than a cute little bunny?

How about a bunny like this one?  It came out a little differently than I had planned, but it’s still cute and that is all that matters.  He is made from some remnants I found at a small thrift store.  He is stuffed with actual cotton, has large button eyes, and of course he has a little bowtie for reasons I can’t share right now.

Also he just has to have this little cotton ball tail.  What else could be more perfect?

All Ears

Less than a week until Halloween, so I made animal ears.  Now why in the world would I want to make these when I already have a costume?

First, they are so darn cute, especially the cat ears.  I didn’t put much effort in the bunny ears because I was just trying them out, they’re just scraps of white and pink felt glued on with a glue gun.  With the cat ears, I added some black lace to dress them up and a matching little black bow.  Super cute now.

Second, they are for backup.  It usually happens every year.  Some “accident” occurs leaving someone’s costume un-wearable, or my niece decides in the last minute that she wants to be something else for Halloween, or somebody insists that they aren’t going to dress up and then changes their mind.  For the most part, I’m prepared.

More Bunnies and Finished in Floral

Well, today is my nephew’s birthday.  He’s now four years old.  We had a small celebration with a cake his mother lovingly baked covered with cranberry sauce, his favorite.  His gifts were a puzzle from his sister, a “really cool” yo-yo from his grandma, a toy tool set from his mother, and…

…this from me.  A cute handmade stuff rabbit.  He seems to really like rabbits and bunnies so he loved this.  The shape of the body is quite unusual for bunnies as well as the face.  I tried my hand with some soft sculpture there, I could use more practice.  Anyway, he loves it and that’s all that matters.  He named it Longears, it’s a reference from a TV show on Qubo called Gofrette. 

After finishing the rabbit, I managed to finish the other projects from my list.  Including these simple wrist cuffs made from two kinds of lace, some bows, and elastic.

Of course I finished my Easter dress.  It took several days to finish because of all the trouble I had with the bodice.  I also had trouble finding the right floral print material, nothing looked quite right.  I ended up using a couple of vintage pillow cases I found in a thrift store for 50 cents.  They worked perfectly for the bodice and overskirt.  The rest of the dress is made with some pink cotton I had leftover which I originally bought at a rummage sale.  So my new dress is pretty and green.

Attack of the Bunnies

Currently writing this at the Laundromat.  I love our local Laundromat.  It’s really close, air conditioned, has cheap machines and has cable TV and free Wi-Fi.  I’m mostly here for the Wi-Fi.

Anyway, I’ve been working hard on the last few projects on my list, including these cute little bunnies.  I made them for my nieces and nephews.  Many of which are suppose to visit this weekend.  The bunnies are just the right size to fit in their hands.  I just hope there won’t be any arguments over them.

Birthday Bunny

Yesterday was my niece’s sixth birthday so I made her this hat.  Yes it is a bunny, not a puppy.  I got the idea from this site, mine turned out a little different.  It’s made from a t-shirt decorated with felt scraps, buttons and little bows.  My niece did like it at first, until her mother managed to convince her that it was a “baby” hat, now she won’t wear it because she’s not a baby.  I told her it’s not for babies, but she won’t listen.
