5 a Week: Crystal Pearl Bracelets

It’s Sunday, so it’s time for week 11 of…

5 a Week: Crystal Pearl Bracelets
…The Five a Week Pledge.

If you haven’t been around here, it’s where you pledge to do five things each week of your choice (see the first week for more info).  I pledged to make five small crafts each week.  Feel free to grab a button and join me.  If you already have, post a comment or a link to share what you accomplished.

This week’s craft:

5 Crystal and Pearl Beaded Bracelets

Bracelets!

I got plenty of jewelry making supplies and tools this week (see The Biggest Haul Ever) and was itching to use them.  I used some of the pink and white faux pearls from the last batch of bracelets I made (see Five a Week: Bracelets), but this time I added clear crystal-y beads for all but the last bracelet.

The last one was just a way to use up some extra beads.  I just took the last few beads I had in those sizes, arranged them in a way I thought looked good, then added some more faux pearls until it was long enough for a bracelet.

Now for a small request, I’m having a hard time deciding what sort of project to do for this coming week.  Any ideas? Please leave a comment with any suggestions, links to tutorials are more than welcome too.  And look forward to next week.

A Quickie Question

Okay I’m back.  I just finished all my final exams yesterday and even enjoyed a celebratory nap afterward.  So, what’s next?  I have a quick and slightly odd question to ask.

What would you name a blog about hand drawn mazes?

The reason I ask this shall be revealed at another time, sorry.  Hopefully it will be worth the wait. Winking smile

10 Seconds

Just a quick tip today, in reference to SOPA and PIPA.  Google has set up a petition to urge Congress to vote no on these potentially harmful bills.  You can sign it here, it only takes like 10 seconds.  And if you have no clue what I am talking about, the link also has more details about it.

Look to the Left

<----

See that, it’s another poll.  This time to see if I should get rid of the monkey widget.  I know Momo is cute and entertaining, but I think he’s causing problems.  The blog has been loading up more slowly since I installed that widget, and it kind of looks a little cluttered.  But what do you all think?  Please vote on it, and maybe leave a comment if you have other opinions along the same matter.

On another note, ever heard of the Random Tutorial Generator?  I found it through Twitter and it’s pretty cool, you click the button and a random craft tutorial pops up from blogs all over the web.  You can search their database if you want something specific.  You can also submit your own tutorials or your favorite ones to them by emailing the links.  I just hope nobody tries to spam them or something like that.

It Lives

Remember way back when I mentioned something about a certain forum site that had pretty much died?  One that I was trying desperately to revive? (See Please Save My Planet)  I had pretty much given up on GetCrafty, until a few minutes ago when I got the urge to go check it out.

It has REVIVED!

It has a new look, new admin, and new spam fighting software to boot.  Right now they are looking for moderators and stuff to help get the site fully back on it’s feet.  I thought about volunteering for it, except that might be putting a little too much on my plate what with all my other online obligations (blog, my forum, other forums, Poupee Girl, etc.)  For now I’m glad to see Get Crafty get back up again.

Thrifters Helping Thrifters

1a-boatkids-graphicsfairy002cI just had to share this story.  Today I went to Goodwill for their half off sale.  I only got some stuff to use for moving, nothing special.  Anyway, while looking at some stuff on a cart I overheard a woman talking on her phone.  She was asking about ideas for a wedding shower gift.  Apparently it was today and she needed an inexpensive last minute gift.  At that moment I spotted a beautiful pair of wine glasses that were on sale for $1 each and just screamed wedding to me.  I handed them to her and asked if they’d work then walked away grinning to myself about what a great thing I did.  I overheard her tell the person on the phone how great the glasses were.  What was really cool was when I went to check out and ran into her again, she thanked me for finding the glasses since they were perfect.  Yay!  I helped someone.  That’s one of the great things about thrift stores, most of the shoppers are willing to help out other shoppers.  That’s probably why I didn’t really hesitate to help her, I have been helped by others in the past so it’s returning the favor.  Now if only people did that more in other stores, the world would be a friendlier place.

Just a Tip

Raise your hand if you have a craft blog/site/shop/etc.  That’s most of you right?  Now how many of you need a great way to promote it?  Who doesn’t, so here’s some help.  Crafty Tips is a craft directory site, lists tons of craft related sites for your viewing pleasure, plus you can add your own for free.  The only catch, you have to submit a craft tip with it. They would prefer tips that aren’t too general, but it can be things like a tutorial for a project or a way to do something quicker.  Whatever you can think of, it is actually kind of fun.

A Little Side Project

1adovefabgfairy003d A couple days ago, I embarked on a special “mission” of sorts.  Of several forum sites I frequent, two have seen better days.  I have mentioned this about Get Crafty but Daily Crafter needs help too.  They both would be wonderful sites if more people posted on them.  And I don’t mean spammers!  Daily Crafter has been hit hard with those.  I have decided to make sure to post to each of them at least once a day, mostly replies to a few older messages.  In fact, my first tactic for this is to post replies to old posts that have yet to receive a reply.  Several of the posts are from people asking for help for something or for feedback and they deserve a response, even if it takes two years for that response.  Yep, some are that old.  With any luck, more people will eventually show up to help with my “cause”.  Hint, hint.

Redecorating?

I have been wondering something about this blog, namely the layout and appearance.  I have been using the same blogger template for over a year and wonder if it might be too boring.  I didn’t give it much thought when I chose it to begin with except to tweak some of the colors a bit, that part isn’t very noticeable actually.  And I do still like it, but I have seen several blogs with the same template.  That’s just too strange.  Should I change things up a bit?  Not sure where to start with that kind of thing.  Any feedback would be quite welcome on this matter.

Please Save my Planet

1adovefabgfairy003d Actually not a planet, a site.  Get Crafty use to be a great site to post and read about anything, crafty or not.  It was one of my first resources when I fell in love with crafting again many years ago.  Going back on my roots, I discovered what once had been a fountain of knowledge and mutual sharing of love and ideas has turned into a ghost town with only the occasional visitor.  I can’t stand it.  What happened to make it so barren, there are posts with people asking for help on projects that have gone months without any views.  That is so wrong.  Please check this place out, keep the dream alive.  And for the love of all things crafty, don’t ignore them any longer.

Help Wanted

frenchfurnituresgfairy008b I still haven’t finished making my new project list.  As a possible project, I was thinking of finishing up another room on my cardboard dollhouse (see Home Sweet Home and Maybe a Campout).  I’ve already finished the bathroom (see Bathroom: Check), I just can’t decide which room to do next.  How about some help deciding?  The choices are:

  • The Living Room
  • The Dining Room
  • The Kitchen
  • The Entry Hall
  • The Hallways
  • The Garden
  • The Master Bedroom
  • The Attic/Storage Room
  • The Extra Room

Which do you think I should do?  By the way, the “extra” room is a room that I haven’t yet decided what it should be.  I’ve thought of making it a nursery or sewing room, maybe a library or den.  Think of it as an other.
