Lace Rosette Shoe Clips with a Twist and Tutorial

The next project on my craft list is something I made for Mother’s day as well as for myself.

Easy Lace Rosette Shoe Clips with a Twist and Tutorial

Shoe clips!

I have a set my mom gave me that I love.  I’ve been dying to make more to work with more outfits, and I thought they would make great gifts too.  Which is why my mom found a pair in a cute gift bag on Mother’s day.

And the gift giving continues.  These were so easy and fun to make that I decided to make a video tutorial.  Shoe clips for all!

All you need are:

And a very special item…

…clip on earrings.

I couldn’t find clips for shoes in stores and the prices online seemed a bit much, so I used backings for clip-on earrings.  Easy to find and to afford (these are a good choice).

It’s also helpful to have basic sewing supplies if you prefer more sewing and less gluing, but that’s optional.  Also I do recommend using Aleene’s Jewel-It or a similar glue to attach the actual clips instead of the glue gun.  But that’s just me.

All set, now here’s the tutorial.

Enjoy!

Here’s the updated list:
Six down, just one more to go.  And it will be up tomorrow!  Look forward to it.

To Mothers and Good Literature

It’s a little late, but Happy Mother’s Day.  Maybe not that late, my sister still has people saying it to her.

Anyway, as usual I made a little something for my own mom this year.  And as usual I didn’t have the guts to give it to her directly.  So she received this discreet little pouch as delivered by my niece.

Inside were a couple of my lovely button broaches (see Button Broach: A Tutorial) and a pretty handkerchief.  I made the handkerchief in a slightly different way than usual.  It’s hard to describe, but I think I will definitely be making more like this in the future.

Next, I found myself in need of a case to hold pens and pencils and such, one that would essentially be squish-proof.  The solution?  A hardcover book.

I took an old hardcover book I had lying around and carefully removed the innards.  Don’t worry, the pages are still completely intact.  I stuck them in the dust jacket to read later since the story sounds interesting.  It’s kind of like turning a hardcover book into a paperback.

All I had to do was make the pockets and lining then glue them inside the cover.  Then I made the strap to keep it closed.  It closes with Velcro, I tried to use snaps but it didn’t turn out right.  Of course I glued on a large button just for show.  It was a lot of fun to make.  I thought about making another one, a larger one this time.  The problem is I can’t find a book with a large sized cover that I can remove without causing too much harm to it.  I’m not one of those people that can completely destroy an interesting book in the name of crafting.  Sigh.
Here’s the updated list:
  • Gift
  • Pencil case
  • T-shirt recon
  • Pink dress
  • Shorts
  • Patterns
  • Shoes
  • Striped skirt
  • Mazes
Two down, seven to go.  The next one should be up by Saturday.

Quickie for Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s day, hope everyone is enjoying the day.  Today’s post is a quick one.  I know, I haven’t posted in days and when I finally do it’s super short.  Brilliant right?  Tomorrow's post will be better.

Anyway, this is what I made for my mom for Mother’s day.  They’re slippers, I have to say that because sadly it isn’t obvious.  They didn’t come out as good as I wanted.  My mom loved them anyway, that’s what mothers are for, right?  I think I’ll make another pair next year, bound to get them right the second time.

Here’s the updated list:

  • Slippers
  • Handkerchiefs
  • Cases
  • Pens
  • Binder
  • T-shirt
  • Skirt
  • Bag
  • Background

One down, eight to go.  See y’all later.

Moms Need Sleep Too

Mother’s day is within a week, this Sunday to be exact, and like most people I was trying to find the perfect gift for my mom.  I found it here in this Mother’s day eBook from FaveCrafts

This wonderful yet simple sleep mask is perfect for my mother.  She tends to get people bugging her with stuff while she is trying to sleep, what mother doesn’t?

I used scraps of purple fuzzy felt and a soft white t-shirt to make it both fun and comfortable.  I decorated it with sparkly fabric paints.  I guess I could have written something else on it instead of “Do Not Disturb”, but it does fit her to a tee.  It’s the closest thing to putting a “don’t bug me” sign around her neck, and I know she will love it.  Oh and don’t worry, she doesn’t read my blog so the secret isn’t out yet.

Here’s the updated list:
Seven down, two to go.  I’m actually a little behind the next project, at least farther than I planned.
