Snowballs

I mentioned before that I was inspired by a certain craft book to make Christmas-y stuff.  One of things I got from it was the idea to make ornaments out of pom-poms, though mine are a little different from the book.

So using some leftover white-ish yarn, glittery paint and a comb, I made these “snowball” ornaments.  Finished with gold cord and they are ready to hang.

And one of the things that first come to my mind when decorating for the holidays is a simple wreath.  Of course, who says they have to go on the door.  I made these by crocheting green ribbon and then threading in red or pink ribbon.

I then glued on metal findings.  The top two are hair clips and the bottom one is a pin.  I had a lot fun making them even though it wasn’t exactly the easiest thing I have ever done. 

For some reason all my crochet hooks have disappeared on me.  I improvised by bending a paper clip into a hook shape, something I sort of learned in high school.  It works okay, but it is definitely not as smooth to work with as an actual hook.  At least it got the job done.

Plaid and Crochet for Dummies

I found some red plaid fabric at a thrift store a while back, I can’t remember which one.  Anyway, I thought it would be perfect for a skirt even if it is sort of a cliché, the plaid skirt.



I tried the same pattern as the skirt I made for class (see It's So Huge).  I think it came out better this time, however the picture came out worse.  Yep, I have some skills with a camera.



Here’s a closer look at the matching accessories.  I thought of adding pockets to the skirt, but changed my mind while cutting the fabric for them.  I made them into a tiny bag instead.  My bags seem to be getting smaller and smaller for good reason.  As I mentioned before, smaller bags are better for choir since they fit under the robe.



And here’s the hair bow.  I realized that it’s been so long since I’ve made bows for my hair and the plaid looks good as a bow, so obviously I just had to make one.  I glued it to a hair comb since they seem to be more versatile than clips.



As a bonus, I also finished the wristbands on my list.  I realized it’s been quite some time since I crocheted anything, so I thought I should try to make something. Wristbands were perfect because they don’t require quite much skill, which I lack, or a pattern which I can’t read anyway.  That’s right, I can’t read crochet patterns.  Anyway, they simply tie on my wrist and have pink ribbon to make them cuter.  I just threaded the ribbon on a large needle and sort of weaved it on the wristbands after finishing them.  Adds a nice touch, right?

Now I Know My ABC’s

Anybody out there who loves to crochet and has young children or relatives to amuse.  I found this tutorial for crocheting the alphabet.  It has each individual letter broken down for easy instruction, and they also threw in a question mark and exclamation point for fun.  You could crochet signs, like maybe a bedroom sign?  Could make a good gift for someone.  Hmmm.
