A Pile of…

I had intended to put this up about two days ago, but things didn’t quite go as planned.

So one day when I was supposed to be focusing on something else, I thought of a nifty way of making lace cuff bracelets.  One I hadn’t done before that would allow me to use this one lace I have that needs to be used up.  It looks pretty cute right?  Although is kind of look like a garter, it is sort of made the same way too.  Anyway, you may be wondering why I could possibly be two days late making this little bitty thing.
Polaroid
Here’s why, I made a lot of them.  The idea I came up with was a way to easily make a bunch of these bracelets at once.  There were some tricky spots, but I managed to make about 40 bracelets in a few days.  Mind you this was while doing other things as well, life doesn’t hold still for bracelet making.  Anyway, I now have a pile of cute lace bracelets and possibly more to come since they are fun to make.  I just need to find ways to get rid of them.  There’s the usual ways; giving away, sticking them in my shoppe, etc.  I think I have another idea for one or two of them, but it needs some planning.
Here’s the updated list:
  • Sunflower skirt
  • Present
  • Video
  • Little t-shirt redo
  • Pincushions
  • Pants redo
  • Bear pants
  • Hair accessories
  • Red skirt
  • Wristbands
Ten down and out.  Now to plan what’s up next. Shifty

Pants To…

So remember the two pairs of pants I got at that yard sale a few weeks ago (see Good Day for a (Yard) Sale)?  I found that although I liked the fabric I certainly did not like the fit.  They were a bit snug in some places while too loose in the worst places.  Of course there are things that can be done about all of that.

So here they are before all sad and unflattering…

…And after.  I first cut off the legs where I wanted and removed the waistbands.  I let out the seams on the side a little to give a little more wiggle room.  For the flowered pair I reattached the waistband and hemmed the legs.  For the black pair though I made a new waistband with wide lace.  Sadly you can’t really tell in the photo, why is black so hard to take pictures?  Now for the rest.  I had to do something with the cutoff legs.  Especially for the black ones, they had that great eyelet embroidered edge.  So I made a pretty little bag that highlights the embroidery as well as a cute doll skirt as modeled by my Monster High doll.  With the floral pant legs I made a small tote bag because one can never have too many, and scrunchies.  One can never have too many of those either.  So I paid about $1 and ended up with two new pairs of shorts, two bags, hair scrunchies and a doll skirt.  I say it was well worth it.

Moving on, I still had some red fabric leftover from that one dress (see Think Red).  Enough for another simple casual skirt.  What I really like is the lace at the hem.  I recently acquired a large amount of lace including this particular lace.  The flowers on it are the same shape as the ones on the fabric, so I absolutely had to use them together.  Now I have this pretty and comfy skirt to wear and I just need to find a top for it.

More Combing and Clipping

Due to some technical problems, this is up about 2 days late.
Anyway, it has been a while since I last made any hair accessories, at least it seems like a while.
Polaroid
Just in case, I decided to whip up a good batch of them.  That includes two large barrettes, two pairs of hair combs, and a ribbon headband.  The combs and barrettes involve several lace rosettes, just like the ones for my broach tutorial but smaller and with faux pearls in the center instead of buttons.  The headband in just like most of the other headbands I have made except for the bow.  I have seen similar bows before and wanted to give it a try.  The chocolate brown combs and barrettes will go in my shoppe and the white combs I am keeping for myself.  I couldn’t resist them and they’d go perfectly with some of my dresses.  The headband is still a mystery to me.  I would love to put for sell too, but I also think it would look cute on my niece.  Hard decision.

Teddies in Jammies

Polaroid
This is my nephew’s teddy bear, “Teddy”.  He loves this little guy.  One evening I thought it would be cute to put a pair of pajama pants on Teddy.  My nephew loved this idea.  The problem was that the pair I put on him were too long.  It was one of those doll ones I made (see Tiny Jim-Jams).  We just rolled up the legs and they worked okay temporarily.
Fast forward, I whipped up this nice pair using the same pattern except cut about an inch shorter.  I used some blue fleece I had because my nephew loves blue.  He seems to think it is a perfect color for boys for some reason.  Anyway, he thought the pants were perfect for Teddy.  I’d say they are very roomy, but maybe that’s Teddy’s thing.  Whatever.

Bursting in Bloom

So one day I was reading a few (more like a lot of) blogs, several of which had posts about none other than pincushions.  Really, really cute pincushions.
Polaroid
I was then overcome with this incredible urge to whip up some of my own.  And that’s how these fine examples came to be.  If it isn’t obvious, they are supposed to be shaped like flowers.  I used some pink fabric scraps I unearthed from the stash and added some white buttons for the center.  The bases are hard to see, but they are made from plastic bottle caps and green felt.  I will probably keep one or two for myself and either give away the rest or stick a few in my shoppe.
Here’s the updated list:
  • Sunflower skirt
  • Present
  • Video
  • Little t-shirt redo
  • Pincushions

T-shirt Redo Redo

Polaroid
A couple years ago, I altered one particular t-shirt (see Like Sunshine).  It was probably one the first ones I did that involved lace.  Anyway, since then that particular shirt has met with disaster.  Disaster involved being covered in red, yellow, and blue stains that would not wash out.  No picture of it, it was depressing.  Luckily the stained bits could be cut off.  However, this would leave behind a shirt that would be impossible for me to wear due to lack of fabric, but not impossible for my niece.  So with some additional cutting and sewing and new elastic and lace, a new shirt has be born.  Now she has a cute new top to wear with those pretty skirts I have been making for her.  Problem solved.
Here’s the updated list:
  • Sunflower skirt
  • Present
  • Video
  • Little t-shirt redo
  • Pincushions
  • Pants redo

Two good things today.  First, it’s my blog’s birthday.  It’s 3 years old today, yay!  Second, I actually remembered it this time.  Double yay!  Last year I was a few days late and the year before, let’s not think about that.
Anyway, last year I made a lovely little video to celebrate (see Happy #2).  Since it was so much fun to do, I decided to make one for this year too.  Enjoy

Doubled Up

So tomorrow is my brother’s birthday.  Every year this brings the same old problem, what do I make to give him?  I have mostly aimed to make things that are somewhat practical or appeal to his interests, the later being considerably harder to do.
Polaroid
So this year the practical gift is…a wallet keychain.  It is similar to ones I have made in the past.  A simple zippered pouch with a key ring attached to it.  The difference with this one is an extra zippered section.  It is basically like making two of the pouches and connecting them together.  Conjoined pouches.  Simple to do except for the whole zipper thing, will I ever learn to do zippers perfectly?Eye rolling smile  The fabric is a nice gray pinstripe print.  It’s not too flashy and definitely not hideous.  I had to fight the temptation to add lace and stuff, I don’t think that would go over well.  Anyway, hopefully he will be able to use it.
Here’s the updated list:
  • Sunflower skirt
  • Present
  • Video
  • Little t-shirt redo
  • Pincushions
  • Pants redo
  • Bear pants
  • Hair accessories
  • Red skirt
  • Wristbands
Two down, eight to go.  The next one will be loaded Monday, it’s another special one.

Surprise, Sunflowers!

Polaroid
I bought this fabric with little sunflowers on it from SAS at least 2 years ago.  I made a dress with it (see Sunflowers and Candy) as well as several other little things (doll clothes, accessories, etc.).  One day while sorting my stash, I was surprised to find that I actually still had some of it.  Enough to make a skirt.  At a skirt that a bit more casual than the stuff I usually make.  I made the skirt basically the same way I usually do except shorter and narrower.  I used some white fabric that I also forgot I had to make the elastic waistband and the ruffle at the hem.  The white contrasts nicely with the print, and the ruffle is cute and helps with the length.  With all these knee-length poufy dresses and skirts I make I find myself a little uncomfortable wearing skirts that are more on the shorter side.  I guess there are worst things than that.
Here’s the updated list:
  • Sunflower skirt
  • Present
  • Video
  • Little t-shirt redo
  • Pincushions
  • Pants redo
  • Bear pants
  • Hair accessories

One down, nine to go.  The next one will hopefully be up by Friday, I am having a little trouble with it.
